What follows is a journalistic historiography of the most violent tornado events in history. It began as a Google Earth project with the idea of mapping the locations of all the F5/EF5 tornadoes that have occurred within the past 130 years and it evolved into a detailed chronology of some of the most significant tornado events in recorded history. With this project, I endeavored to tell the story of all the F5s because each one has a captivating story to tell. They provide countless incredible examples of the awesome power of nature as well as providing insight into how these events occur. The better we understand our past, the better we can prepare for the future. The depth of the history is immense and the project took nearly three years to complete. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
